PALAU TO ANNOUNCE SHARK SANCTUARY!
H.E. Johnson Toribiong, President of the Republic of Palau, a tiny Pacific Island nation, will announce to the General Assembly of the United Nations on Friday September 25, 2009, that Palau has officially declared the waters of its Exclusive Economic Zone (230, 000 Sq. Miles / 620,000 Sq. Kms.) as the worlds first officially recognized SHARK SANCTUARY!
President Toribiong will also call for a global ban on shark-finning and for other nations to follow suit. Through his actions, President Toribiong places Palau at the very forefront of worldwide efforts to protect sharks from unsustainable destruction. This is tremendous news for Palau and for the worldwide battle to protect sharks from unsustainable destruction!
Palau Shark Sanctuary anxiously awaits President Toribiong's official announcement and is standing by to commend him in the highest possible manner for his international leadership in world wide efforts to protect sharks.

I would like to commend the people of Palau for your willingness to establish this park. It will set the bar now for others to follow. Good work!

I own a successful dive center in the United Sates. I have brought a group of 18 divers to Palau twice in the last five years. We travel all over the world every year, and are always looking for NEW destinations to keep our clients happy. I will now book our next trip BACK to Palau as a direct result of this action! Other p[otential destinations will lose our business and you will recieve it because of your commitmet to the environmen and the creatues we love. We know this will further protect your ecology, and if others do not follow, Palau may retain the most pristine reef systems in the world because of this protection!
Thank you for your efforts, we look forward o seeing you in your waters next year!
Best Wishes
JT
Congratulations President Toribiong for being a forward thinking leader on the protection of Sharks. Congratulations Dermot on your persistant hard work on achieving a shark sanctuary. Hopefully, what a small island nation has done will be an inspiration, and kick in the butt, to other countries.

The Shark Sanctuary will not only serve to protect Palau’s sharks but will act as a benchmark by which other nations’ efforts can be judged. Bravo!
